So here's the thing with Boon Kai, it is not a classy place. But, it's not trying to be. Yes, the places lacks in decor and may look a little sketchy but, it does have as I like to call it the best "cheap Chinese" around! Everything is fresh and tastes great. The service is always friendly, too. Never had a bad meal there and I am super pickey when it comes to Chinese food. I am a BIG fan of the sweet Chinese dinner rolls they give you with your meal :)

One of the best in the whole Detroit area. Great hot and sour soup. And sweet rolls. Most take home food from here because they give you a lot of food. Nice mix to the menu with something for everyone. Nothing fancy, just great food at a fair price.

After seeing all of the high star ratings, I gave Boon Kai another try. Sadly, despite my four year hiatus from this place, the food tastes the same as the last time I decided to quit going there. Slightly below average, they still are planted in the mid-70s style of serving American Chinese (dinner roll and all). Anybody that would drive more than two minutes to this place is driving too far.

OMG! Look at that dirty kitchen door! Was my mom's first words as we enter the Boon Kai restaurant. And still, we decided to stay. Sticky table tops and crooked chairs did not scared us, after all, we are Russians, we know the worst places to be. Hot and Sour soup is the work of culinary art, Boon Kai chef should patent the recipe. Almond chicken is tasty and always fresh. I write ALWAYS because despite all the negatives we become regulars at this 'hole in the wall'. Waitresses are very sweet. It took only two visits to the restaurant for them to remember that I don't like a green pepper in my Kon Pow beef. Food is the star at this restaurant and you know sometimes stars have to perform in the horrible venues.I do think they should hire a good cleaning company. LOL In conclusion: if you have a craving for cheap delicious Chinese Food, Boon Kai is the place. I love it.

This is the only place I'll eat Chinese food in Michigan. The food is delicious and clearly made with quality ingredients, and the portions are really large/inexpensive. I don't get to eat here often, as I live 45 minutes away, but I make the trip every time I'm craving this type of cuisine. Highly recommended.

One of the best Chinese places by far. The staff is always awesome and friendly. My family has been going here since I was little. The sauces and flavors are unique and bold, above average from most Asian restaurants. The only downfall that I can see is the cleanliness and upkeep of the actual resturaunt itself. Needs some work... Delicious food though ...

This was my absolute favorite chinese restaurant in the area when I lived in Walled Lake. I used to order General Tsao or Sechzuan Chicken until I tried the Gum Lo Wonton. I've never seen it on any other restaurants menu but once I had it, I never ordered other meal off their menu, it's THAT good. Chicken, Pork, Beef and Shrimp with all kinds of vegetables and wontons in an amazing sauce served with white rice.

A staple for Chinese in the area. We've been going to this place for over 20 years. Big portions, pretty cheap too. I drive the few extra minutes bc the closer Chinese places to me suck :( usually get the sesame or orange chicken, and crab Rangoon

BOON KAI is the best chinese restaurant in michigan! its a little precious gem hiding in the city of walled lake. the hot & sour soup is medicine! gum lo wonton is my favorite~ i always ask for extra wontons!! boonkai special, sweet & sour beef & chicken is a must!!! i love the fact that they use real chicken breast for their chicken meat and not some reconstituted bleach chicken like the hole in the wall chinese restaurants in the hood. oh and their home made buns!! i love the smell of it! always pack up a dozen before i go home. the price is very reasonable and the portion is more than enough! i live about a good hour away but it is always worth the drive!!!

LOVE IT! I've been coming here since I was seven years old, the food is so good! The atmosphere is quiet and nice, the staff is sweet. Everything on the menu I've ever gotten is good! But sometimes they will screw up the take out orders!

The food is better then most Chinese restaurants in the area but this place is definitely the filthiest place in town. the waitress "oh by the way was very rude" give us a bottle of sweet and sour sauce that was so dirty we didn't even want it on the table nevermind use it. I can't believe this place gets good reviews it's terrible... NEVER AGAIN!!

I went here for the first time when my friend recommended it. We sat down and there was a fingernail on the table..... We still decided to stay.... They give you rolls which are hot and sweet (very tasty), crackers + sauce to dip them in. The food came and it was amazing. The Chicken was very very good. Prices are very reasonable (Combos + dinners are $9). Although on our last visit, I ordered beef and it looked dried out and was very chewy (not good!) Also, the table was sticky, the bottles of the red-ish sauce they gave us and the hot mustard they gave us for the crackers were both completely empty (AND STICKY!!), and the rolls were not fresh. Maybe it was just a bad day for them..... I will stick to ordering chicken when I go there next time. I would still recommend.

we recently moved to the WL area, and were happy to find a good Chinese take out restaurant. I agree with other reviews: the restaurant itself is dark and uninviting. Carry out is the way to go here. Chicken fried rice is consistently good. We really like the sweet and sour chicken: good sauce on the side, no "weird" gristly chicken. Boon Kai is part of our regular carry out rotation!

Good food and value. Restaurant is looking a little old and dated. They had the heat turned down low so it was a little uncomfortable for my wife. Service was good.

Out of all the mini-mall located American Chinese restaurants in the area (Walled Lake, Wixom, Wolverine Lake), Boon Kai easily has the best quality food and largest portions. I've never had a problem with dried-out, nasty chicken or pork like I've experienced in other Chinese places nearby. Boon Kai's food is always moist, hot and satisfying. Their sweet dinner rolls are awesome too. The dine-in accommodations are typically horrid for this kind of restaurant; the booth benches are coming apart, the tables wobble, there are leak stains on the drop ceiling, the hvac is performing at a bare minimum for human habitation and they make the weakest attempt at Chinese decor - a solitary mosaic on one wall. But decor is not the reason you'd come to Boon Kai anyway, it's to satisfy that infrequent craving for Chinese take-out. That they can do very well. I gave them 3 stars because that's the best, I think, any mini-mall Chinese food should get.

I love Boon Kai, I lived in Walled lake for a good 10 years and Now I'm in a different state. I am constantly comparing other Chinese places to the food I know and love from Boon Kai, I have yet to find one that measures up. The Egg drop soup and Pepper steak is the best I have ever had, sure the inside is usually empty and dark, but who wants to be in a crowded place where someone is staring at you while you eat? Out dated decor, sure but i would rather they focus on the food instead of how up to date and trendy the dining room is. Only dislike is that they are closed on Mondays so if I have a hankering for Chinese on a Monday I would have to go somewhere else. Now every time I come home I make a trip to Boon Kai. Its a Walled Lake staple in my book.

While the decor is dismal the food is very good & reasonably priced. Whenever I'm in the mood for Chinese, I go here.

I love run of the mill Chinese. Grew up on it with Chins in Livonia. This is authentic as it comes in the USA. If I want fancy I'll do Sushi or Italian. I don't frequent here but when I'm in the mood for Chinese, this is where I'm thinking.

Excellent American Chinese. Almond chicken rocks not over breaded. broccoli beef is great, sweet and sour chicken and the dinner rolls are the BEST. my favorite egg roll and rockin hot and sour soup. Lived in Connecticut for 3 years, there was a place a mile away that was on some top 100 chinese restaurants in America. Meh. soups were good but nothing else.

Pretty run of the mill Chinese joint. Dark and sorta dingy on the inside. Food is greasy but you get plenty of it. If it tells you anything, I drove 15 minutes to another Chinese place today when I could have walked to Boon Kai....but it'll work in a pinch.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
